Microelement and Vitamin Tests

Tests

Vitamin and microelement tests help assess the concentration of specific substances in the blood when a deficiency or excess is suspected, a known condition is monitored, or supplements are being taken. General symptoms alone - for example, fatigue, weakness, or hair loss - do not show which vitamin or microelement is lacking, so it is worth choosing tests purposefully.

What can be tested?

REZUS offers tests for vitamin D, B12, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, and other vitamins and microelements. Iron metabolism tests are also performed – iron, ferritin, transferrin, and transferrin saturation. These indicators assess different parts of iron metabolism: for example, ferritin helps evaluate the body's iron reserves, so sometimes it is important to assess several indicators together to evaluate the iron status.

For example, the 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] test is most commonly used to assess vitamin D status, while the determination of the active form 1,25(OH)₂D is usually needed only in certain medical circumstances.

Vitamin B12 or folic acid tests can be useful in assessing their potential deficiency, but a borderline result does not always explain the symptoms. In some cases, a doctor may recommend additional tests or assess several indicators together.

How to prepare?

The preparation conditions depend on the chosen test, so it is worth reading the description of the specific test before arriving. Inform the specialist about any supplements being taken, especially if they contain the substance being tested or biotin, as supplements can affect some laboratory test results. Medications prescribed by a doctor should not be discontinued arbitrarily.
