Food Intolerance Tests
Tests
If you are considering an IgG food test due to recurring digestive or other symptoms, it's important to know what this test can and cannot show. It detects IgG antibodies against selected foods, but such a result is not a diagnosis of food allergy.
Detection of IgG antibodies to food does not indicate an IgE-mediated allergy and is not considered independent confirmation that a person is intolerant to a specific product. An IgG response can also indicate normal exposure to the consumed food. Therefore, the result should not be interpreted as an automatic list of products that must be removed from the diet.
When to seek another test?
If there is a quick onset of hives, swelling, respiratory symptoms, or other manifestations typical of an allergic reaction after consuming specific food, allergy tests and symptom history are evaluated. If the issue is related to lactose breakdown or celiac disease, entirely different tests are used.
For long-term digestive or other symptoms, it is better to assess the test result together with the symptom history and a specialist. This reduces the risk of unnecessarily restricting the diet and missing another cause of the symptoms.
