Tests
Glucose tests are used to assess blood sugar levels and glucose metabolism. At REZUS, you can perform a glucose concentration test in serum or plasma, a glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) test, and a glucose tolerance test.
What is the difference between glucose and HbA1c?
Glucose concentration shows the blood sugar level at the time of sample collection, so the circumstances of the test and whether it is done on an empty stomach are important for the result. HbA1c reflects the average glucose concentration over approximately the past 2–3 months and is used for diagnosing and controlling diabetes.
The glucose tolerance test shows how the body handles a specific amount of glucose. During the test, glucose is measured according to a specific schedule, so it is important to follow the preparation and sample collection time requirements.
The choice of a particular test depends on the purpose. Different tests may be needed for preventive screening, suspecting diabetes, during pregnancy, or already treating diabetes. If the result is borderline or does not match other indicators, the doctor may recommend repeating the test or supplementing it with another method.
