Determination of Glucose Concentration in Plasma

Glucose in plasma (GLU) – one of the main parameters for diagnosing diabetes. An increase in glucose concentration in the blood is hyperglycemia, while a decrease is hypoglycemia. Glucose increases in cases of diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glucose, Cushing's syndrome, pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer. Factors that increase glucose levels include stress, caffeine, antidepressants, and diuretics. Glucose decreases with insulin overdose, insulinoma, hormonal insufficiency of the pituitary and adrenal glands, and alcohol consumption.
