Description

Helicobacter pylori detection in stool – this is a non-invasive immunological test designed to detect Helicobacter pylori bacterial antigens in the patient's stool. This test is suitable for both primary detection of H. pylori infection and evaluation of treatment effectiveness, especially after eradication therapy. The test is based on the detection of bacterial antigens that are excreted with stool during an active infection.

H. pylori infection is associated with chronic gastritis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, and over time – with an increased risk of stomach cancer. Therefore, timely diagnosed and successfully treated infection helps reduce the likelihood of these diseases.

Test principle: The test is conducted using an immunochromatographic method that detects H. pylori antigens in stool. A positive result indicates an active infection.

Recommendations:

  • It is recommended to perform the test in case of dyspepsia symptoms (e.g., abdominal pain, burning, nausea, bloating), suspecting stomach or duodenal ulcer.
  • It is also recommended at least 8 weeks after the end of antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors use, to reliably assess the success of the treatment.
  • Test results may be influenced by antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, bismuth preparations – therefore, their use must be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior (antibiotics – 4–8 weeks).
  • The sample should be collected in a sterile dry container, without any urine or water contaminants, and delivered to the laboratory as soon as possible.
