Atopobium vaginae is a bacterium naturally found in the vaginal microflora. These bacteria belong to the Atopobiaceae family and are known for their role in balancing vaginal flora and potential impact on reproductive health disorders. A. vaginae is often found in patients with bacterial vaginosis. This is a vaginal dysbiosis characterized by an imbalance in the vaginal environment, and symptoms may include unpleasant odor, white or gray discharge, itching, and burning. Atopobium vaginae is not commonly associated with male genital infections, but men can be carriers of the bacteria and potential spreaders of infections.
