Tests
Tests for liver enzymes and other liver-related indicators help assess whether there is liver cell damage, bile flow disorders, or other changes. At REZUS, it is possible to conduct tests for ALT (ALAT), AST (ASAT), GGT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin fractions, CDT, ceruloplasmin, and other tests related to liver condition.
What distinguishes the main liver indicators?
ALT and AST are enzymes whose concentration in the blood may increase when cells are damaged. ALT is more associated with the liver, while AST is found in other tissues as well, so the results of these indicators are evaluated together. Changes in GGT and alkaline phosphatase can be important in assessing the condition of the liver and bile ducts. Bilirubin tests help evaluate its metabolism, and changes in direct and indirect bilirubin levels can provide additional information about possible causes of changes.
An elevated indicator alone does not determine a specific liver disease. Results can be affected by alcohol, certain medications, physical exertion, and other conditions, so deviations are assessed based on the entire set of tests, symptoms, and health history. If liver indicators are being tested repeatedly, it is useful to compare the result with previous tests.
