Tests
Tests conducted during pregnancy have different purposes: some confirm or monitor the pregnancy, others assess the risk of infections, while prenatal screenings calculate the likelihood of certain fetal chromosomal conditions. Therefore, 'pregnancy tests' are not a single standard package for the entire pregnancy.
The Beta-hCG test can be used for early pregnancy confirmation or to assess its progression in specific situations. Serological infection tests, such as for cytomegalovirus, address different questions and must be interpreted based on IgG, IgM, previous results, and other important pregnancy and health information.
Prenatal screening is not a diagnosis
Tests like PRISCA or other prenatal screening methods calculate risk rather than definitively determine a fetal chromosomal disorder. If the screening result indicates an increased risk, further steps are discussed with the pregnancy care specialist and may include more precise non-invasive or diagnostic tests.
The timing of specific tests during pregnancy is important, so it is best to plan them according to the pregnancy week and the doctor's recommendations. If a test is ordered independently, check before performing it to ensure the chosen method is suitable for the current stage of pregnancy.
