Chlamydia trachomatis LGV - one of the diseases caused by the chlamydia bacteria is lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV). LGV is a sexually transmitted infection caused by specific serovars of Chlamydia trachomatis (L1, L2, L3). The main route of infection is through sexual contact: vaginal, anal, and oral. The primary symptom is small, painless blisters or ulcers in the genital or rectal area, which often go unnoticed. Symptoms appear 3-30 days after infection. If untreated, chronic inflammations, lymph node, rectal damage, and reproductive system issues may develop.
Urogenital tract (urinary and genital) C. trachomatis infection (syn. chlamydia) is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI), often asymptomatic, leading to delayed diagnosis and continuous transmission to sexual partners. If not diagnosed in time and spread among sexual partners, it causes reproductive health issues (infertility).
Urogenital chlamydia is contracted during all types of sexual intercourse (vaginal, oral, anal; heterosexual or homosexual). The infection is not contracted through household means, especially when personal hygiene is maintained. An infected mother may transmit the infection to her baby during childbirth.
The most common symptoms for women: mucous or purulent vaginal discharge, painful urination, burning sensation during urination, difficulty urinating, bleeding after intercourse, pain in the lower abdomen or during intercourse, bleeding between periods, heavy periods. Chlamydial infection from the cervix can penetrate deeper into the urinary and genital organs and cause pelvic inflammatory disease. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, 9% of women who do not treat chlamydial infection for 12 months develop pelvic inflammatory disease.
For men, chlamydia may present with white or clear discharge from the urethra, burning sensation during urination. Men may sometimes have difficulty urinating, feel itching around the urethra. Chlamydia can enter the internal male urinary and genital organs and cause inflammation of the testicles and epididymis, resulting in scrotal pain and swelling. Signs of anal inflammation (pain, discharge, bleeding) are possible. When prostatitis starts, there are aching pains in the sacrum, perineum, groin, testicles, urethra, increased frequency of urination, especially at night, decreased sexual potency, and possible fever.
