Determination of Magnesium Concentration

Approximately 69% of magnesium ions are stored in bones. The remaining participate in intermediary metabolism, of which about 70% are in free form, while the other 30% are bound to proteins (especially albumin), citrate, phosphates, and other complex-forming compounds.
The amount of magnesium in the body is associated with the metabolism of calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and phosphates.
These indicators are associated with heart disorders, such as ventricular arrhythmias that are untreatable with conventional therapy, increased sensitivity to digoxin, coronary artery spasms, and sudden death.

Hypermagnesemia (increase) is detected in acute and chronic kidney failure, untreated diabetes, Addison's disease, hypothyroidism, systemic lupus erythematosus, and multiple myeloma cases. The decrease is associated with insufficient absorption of food in the body, hypoparathyroidism alcoholism, chronic kidney diseases, and diabetic acidosis cases.

Recommendations:

• It is recommended to perform prophylactically once a year; for disease diagnosis and treatment control, it is performed periodically as directed by a doctor.
• Medications, diet (intake of dietary supplements), and alcohol have an impact on test results.
• For test sampling, fasting for 12 hours is required, and 2-3 days before the test, avoid supplements with magnesium and vitamin D.
