Determination of Magnesium Concentration

Approximately 69% of magnesium ions are stored in bones. The remaining participate in intermediary metabolism, about 70% of which are in free form, and the other 30% are bound with proteins (especially albumin), citrate, phosphates, and other complex-forming compounds.
The amount of magnesium in the body is related to the metabolism of calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and phosphates.
These indicators are associated with heart disorders such as ventricular arrhythmias, which are unresponsive to conventional treatment, increased sensitivity to digoxin, coronary artery spasms, and sudden death.

Hypermagnesemia (increase) is detected in cases of acute and chronic renal failure, untreated diabetes, Addison's disease, hypothyroidism, lupus erythematosus, multiple myeloma. A decrease is associated with inadequate food absorption in the body, hypoparathyroidism, alcoholism, chronic kidney diseases, and diabetic acidosis.
