RF | Rheumatoid Factor

Rheumatoid Factor (RF) is a test that is convenient for the differential diagnosis of arthritis and evaluating their progression prognosis. However, RF is a non-specific test, with a positive RF value found in 1-5% of the healthy population (low titer) and 15-20% of elderly individuals suffering from other chronic diseases. A positive RF result is also detected in autoimmune rheumatic diseases and with varying frequency in non-rheumatic conditions, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren's syndrome, subacute bacterial endocarditis, and other bacterial infectious diseases, infectious hepatitis, chronic liver diseases, chronic active lung diseases, and parasitic and viral infections.

Recommendations:

• It is recommended to perform the test if experiencing persistent joint pain.
• It is recommended to perform the test prophylactically once a year for disease diagnosis and treatment control, periodically as directed by a doctor.
• The results of the test can be influenced by medications and diet (consumption of dietary supplements).
• Fasting for 12 hours is required before the test.
