Transferrin is part of the protein composition. Transferrin performs the transport of iron to tissues. It also participates in the regulation of iron concentration in the blood; when iron is deficient, transferrin increases, and when iron concentration rises, its amount decreases. However, transferrin decreases in the presence of inflammatory, malignant processes, poor nutrition, and liver diseases.
