Aldosterone Determination after Provocation

What is this? 

Aldosterone is an adrenal hormone that regulates the metabolism of salts (sodium and potassium) and blood pressure. It is important for fluid balance in the body. 

When is it recommended? 

• Suspecting primary or secondary hyperaldosteronism (e.g., in cases of high blood pressure, hypokalemia); 
• In case of low blood pressure with salt imbalance; 
• Evaluating adrenal function or disorders of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system. 

Benefits: 

Helps identify specific causes of hypertension, adjust treatment, and prevent complications. It can be used together with a renin test. 

Important: 

Special preparation may be required before the test (discontinuing certain medications, regulating salt intake). The test is sensitive to body position and time.
