ROMA scale: premenopause

What is it? 
The ROMA test is applied similarly as in the postmenopause case, but assessing the risk for women who have not yet reached menopause. The same markers are used – HE4 and CA-125 – only the calculation is adjusted according to the premenopausal hormonal background. 

When is it recommended? 

• In the presence of an ovarian cyst or other formation; 
• For women with a genetic predisposition to oncological diseases (e.g., BRCA mutations); 
• If there is a family history of ovarian or uterine cancer. 

Benefits: 

Helps to evaluate whether a formation is likely benign or if urgent consultation with an oncogynecologist is necessary. It can help avoid unnecessary invasive procedures or, conversely, not miss risky cases.
