Helicobacter pylori IgA antibody test is a blood test designed to quantitatively assess the concentration of IgA class antibodies formed in the body during active or acute H. pylori infection. These antibodies appear at an early stage of the disease and indicate that the immune system is currently actively responding to the bacterium.
Helicobacter pylori is an opportunistic bacterium, living in the lining of the stomach and duodenum, often causing chronic gastritis, stomach or duodenal ulcers, and over time can contribute to the development of stomach cancer. The infection spreads orally through contaminated food, water, or contact with infected individuals. The bacterium more easily establishes itself if the body's immune system is weakened.
IgA antibodies are particularly important in assessing the early stage of infection, when IgG may still be undetectable, or when it is necessary to clarify the presence of active infection.
Test principle: The concentration of IgA antibodies is determined by an immunochemical method from venous blood. Results are provided quantitatively (in international units).
Recommendations:
- Recommended when active or acute H. pylori infection is suspected.
- Useful for patients experiencing upper digestive tract symptoms - pain, heartburn, bloating.
- Assigned as an additional test alongside IgG or antigen tests to accurately determine the activity of the infection.
- Suitable for assessing H. pylori infection in patients with a weakened immune system.
- It is recommended to come for the test fasting, although it is not necessary.
