HBs Ag | Determination of Hepatitis B Virus Antigen by Immunoassay Method

Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) – this test indicates the presence of hepatitis B virus infection. HBsAg is the first immunological marker, usually appearing several days or weeks before clinical symptoms manifest. HBsAg is detected in the blood of individuals suffering from acute or chronic viral hepatitis B. HBsAg tests are used in diagnostic procedures to identify individuals infected with HBV and to prevent the transmission of the hepatitis B virus through blood and blood products. HBsAg tests are also used for monitoring the course of disease in individuals with acute or chronic HBV infections and, if necessary, for evaluating the effectiveness of antiviral treatment. Furthermore, HBsAg tests are recommended before childbirth to take appropriate measures to protect the newborn from hepatitis B infection transmission.
