Beryllium

Beryllium is found in plants and animals. It is necessary for the normal metabolism of magnesium and phosphorus in the human body and inhibits the activity of certain enzymes. If there is an excess of beryllium in people's diet, a soluble beryllium phosphate that the body cannot absorb forms in the intestines, leading to phosphorus deficiency, bone softening, and beryllium rickets. Beryllium and its compounds, especially organic ones, are toxic, and poisoning can lead to berylliosis.
