What is it?
This is a blood test that detects specific IgA class antibodies against deamidated gliadin peptides. These antibodies are one of the main indicators for diagnosing celiac disease – an autoimmune intestinal disorder where gluten is not tolerated.
How is it performed?
It is performed from a venous blood sample. It is recommended not to avoid gluten before the test as the results might otherwise be falsely negative.
When is it recommended?
- When celiac disease is suspected (abdominal bloating, diarrhea, weight loss);
- In case of autoimmune diseases (Type 1 diabetes, autoimmune thyroiditis);
- Prophylactically – if there are family members with celiac disease.
Benefits:
Helps to determine or rule out gluten intolerance. The test is particularly useful for early diagnosis, especially if the patient has nonspecific digestive disorders.
