Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease (antibodies are produced against one's own bones and cartilage). Continuous inflammation, complex immune processes cause joint destruction. About 12,000 people are sick in Lithuania, 1,200 new cases are registered every year.

The specificity of the anti-CCP test is 98%, the sensitivity is 80% for rheumatoid arthritis.

An elevated Anti-CCP test result indicates a high risk of rheumatoid arthritis.

In people who have already been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, an increased result of the Anti-CCP test indicates a severe course of the disease (risk of bone erosion).

It is recommended to perform:

Prophylactically once a year (a positive result of the Anti-CCP test indicates a high risk of suffering from rheumatoid arthritis in the future);
In case of morning stiffness of the joints;
In case of constant joint pains;
In case of swelling of the hands;
With the appearance of subcutaneous painless pea-sized nodules, usually in the area of small joints of the hand.
