X-ray
What is an X-ray?
An X-ray is one of the most commonly performed imaging examinations. It helps diagnose a wide range of medical conditions and injuries, such as bone fractures, inflammation, the size and condition of the heart, changes in the lungs, and other health problems. X-ray imaging is one of the oldest medical diagnostic methods still in use today. It is important not to underestimate the value of this examination, as it can sometimes reveal diseases or conditions that the patient was not even aware of.

What Can X-ray Examinations Show?
An X-ray examination is widely used to evaluate the condition of various body areas and organs.
- Chest X-ray: Allows for the diagnosis of lung diseases such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, cancer, emphysema, etc. It reveals infiltrates, consolidations, and the thickening of reticular and reticulonodular shadows.
- Heart X-ray: Shows heart enlargement, fluid excess, and coronary artery calcifications.
- Skeletal X-ray: Used to diagnose fractures, dislocations, arthritis, arthrosis, osteoporosis, and bone tumors. It evaluates bone density, structure, and joint spaces. Computed tomography (CT) methods provide accurate three-dimensional images of bones.
- Abdominal X-ray: Shows the condition of the liver, spleen, and intestines, and can diagnose ulcers, gallstones/kidney stones, and inflammation. Contrast studies better visualize certain organs, such as the gallbladder and the digestive tract.
Some Indicators for Performing X-ray Examinations:
- Diagnosing chest and lung symptoms;
- Diagnosis of skeletal formation and deformities;
- Diagnosing bone fractures, skeletal system injuries, or pathological changes in hard tissues;
- Sclerotherapy diagnosis;
- Diagnosing dislocations of the musculoskeletal system;
- Abdominal diagnosis (e.g., acute abdominal pain, plain abdominal X-ray, urethrogram, cystogram);
- Diagnosis of degenerative, inflammatory, traumatic, and neoplastic diseases, as well as changes in the musculoskeletal system;
- Diagnosis of inflammatory and expansive processes of the mucosa, skull, and paranasal sinuses, etc.
How to Prepare for X-ray Examinations?
Preparing for X-ray examinations is usually not complicated. Generally, the patient must remove certain clothing and all jewelry so they do not absorb additional radiation or compromise image quality. Doctors may ask the patient to wear a special shield to protect sensitive tissue from radiation. Patients often do not require any special preparation procedures or dietary restrictions before an X-ray, but it is important to follow the doctor's instructions and provide all information regarding their health status before the procedure.
