Androstenedione

What is it? 

Androstenedione is a male sex hormone (androgen) produced in both men and women in the adrenal glands and gonads. It is an intermediate product in the synthesis of testosterone and estrogens. 

When is it recommended? 

• For women with excessive hair growth, irregular menstruation, acne; 
• Suspecting polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS); 
• Assessing adrenal or ovarian tumors. 

Benefits: 

The study helps to determine hormonal balance disorders, identify androgen excess, and track the progress of treatment. 

Important: 

The test is often performed in the morning and on specific cycle days. Results are evaluated alongside other hormones (testosterone, DHEA-S, prolactin).
