Direct Coombs Test (Column Method)

What is it? 

This is a test that determines whether antibodies are attached to red blood cells. It is performed using a special column method, which is considered more sensitive than the classical method. 

When is it recommended? 

• Suspected autoimmune hemolytic anemia 
• In cases of neonatal hemolysis (e.g., Rh incompatibility) 
• After blood transfusions, if complications are suspected 

The test helps accurately diagnose autoimmune blood diseases or reactions after transfusions.
