APO A1 | Apolipoprotein A1

Apolipoproteins are part of the protein component of lipoproteins. Lipoproteins are responsible for the transport of cholesterol. Apolipoproteins A are involved in activating enzymes. These enzymes activate the movement of cholesterol from tissues to High-Density Lipoproteins. Apolipoproteins A help liver receptors recognize these lipoproteins, so they are stored in the liver. The study of Apolipoproteins A is useful for assessing the treatment of elevated cholesterol levels in the blood, the effectiveness and progress of the treatment.

The concentration of apolipoproteins A increases in the case of hereditary cholesterol ester transfer protein deficiency. It also increases during pregnancy, weight loss, estrogen use, and oral contraceptive use

The concentration of apolipoproteins A decreases in coronary artery disease, diabetes, chronic renal failure, and with the use of certain medications (e.g., diuretics, beta-blockers)

Recommendations:

• It is recommended to perform it prophylactically once a year, and for disease diagnosis and treatment control, it is performed periodically according to the doctor's instructions.
• Medications and diet (including dietary supplements) affect the test results.
• Fasting for 12 hours is required before the test.
