Passengers at Vilnius Airport Begin COVID-19 Testing

From Monday, passengers at Vilnius Airport can undergo a paid coronavirus test. The services are provided by the medical laboratory company Rezus.lt, which won the tender.

Paid testing will be conducted in temporary structures set up next to the arrival terminal, in the car park.

According to Vilnius Airport's announcement, it is planned that in April, such services will be offered near Kaunas and Palanga airports as well.

It is reported that the testing service time will be aligned with the current flight schedule, and test certificates will be issued not only in Lithuanian but also in other foreign languages.

All passengers wishing to take the test near the airport are advised to register online or by phone before arriving or departing by plane, be at the testing point at least 5 minutes before the scheduled appointment time, and prepare their personal document.

Paid testing will be conducted in temporary structures set up near airport passenger terminals. Both departing and arriving passengers at the airport will be able to take the test.

The Vilnius Airport announcement states that with the implementation of additional document and health certificate checks, processes at airports may take longer: currently, the usual recommendation for passengers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the flight is especially relevant. Passengers are also asked to assess the time needed for the test and result and accordingly add the planned duration of the test to the usual recommendations for arrival time.

Currently, when traveling from Lithuania to most European Union (EU) or third countries, it is necessary to have a negative result confirmation obtained no earlier than 72 or 48 hours before arrival - in many cases, countries recognize not only PCR but also rapid antigen test certificates. Lithuania also requires a negative coronavirus test upon arrival in the country or to perform it immediately upon arrival.

The company that won the tender will perform at least three types of tests - PCR, rapid PCR, and rapid antigen tests. It is planned that with the expansion of testing capabilities in the markets, the types of tests at airports may also be supplemented.

The prices of the testing services currently offered are 43 Euro for a COVID-19 antigen test within 20 minutes, 33 Euro for a test within 2 hours.

A COVID-19 PCR test performed within 24-36 hours costs 90 Euro, and the same test performed within 1.5-3 hours costs 140 Euro.
