Lipase is characterized by slightly better specificity and sensitivity than general α-amylase, but the diagnostic value of lipase is lower than that of pancreatic α-amylase. It is one of the most informative indicators of pancreatitis.

Morphine increases the concentration of lipase in the blood.

During acute pancreatitis, the increase in lipase in the blood lasts longer than that of α-amylase. Lipase levels in the blood may increase with chronic biliary tract diseases and pancreatic tumors. Lipase levels in the blood do not increase in cases of epidemic parotitis and appendicitis.

• It is recommended to perform prophylactically once a year; for disease diagnostics and treatment control, it is performed periodically according to the doctor's instructions.
• It is recommended to perform in cases of severe abdominal or back pain, lack of appetite, nausea.
