Flu Vaccination

It is recommended to get vaccinated against seasonal flu annually. Flu viruses change, and the protection formed after the previous vaccination weakens over time, so a vaccine adapted for that season is used each year.

When is the best time to get vaccinated?

In Lithuania, it is usually recommended to get vaccinated against flu in September-October, before the peak of the flu season. However, vaccination can also be done later, throughout the flu season. It usually takes about two weeks for a sufficient immune response to develop, so the vaccine does not provide immediate protection after administration.

Vaccination is especially important for people who are more likely to experience complications from the flu, such as older adults, pregnant women, and those with certain chronic diseases. The conditions for groups eligible for state-funded vaccinations may be updated, so it's worth checking the compensation based on the current information.

Before vaccination

If you have a fever, an acute illness, or have previously experienced a strong reaction to a vaccine, inform the vaccinating specialist about it. When registering, choose the available flu vaccine and a suitable time.
