Scabies Mite (Scabies) Microscopic Examination

What is it? 

A microscopic examination during which the skin is examined to identify the scabies-causing agent – Sarcoptes scabiei mite or its eggs. 

When is it recommended? 

• In case of severe itching, especially at night; 
• When blisters or nodules appear between fingers, on wrists, or in the genital area; 
• If an infection chain is suspected in a family or group. 

Benefits: 

By confirming the diagnosis microscopically, targeted treatment is prescribed and the use of incorrect preparations is avoided. 

How is it performed? 

Material is gently scraped from the affected skin area and then examined under a microscope.
