How to prepare for a driver's health check?
When coming for a health check for a driving license, bring with you:
- Identity card;
- Ophthalmologist's consultation conclusion;
- Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT) consultation note/certificate;
- Driver's license (if health is being re-checked);
- Psychiatrist's (mental health center) certificate. Individuals who do not know which psychiatric institution they belong to should consult their family doctor or consult privately with a psychiatrist from UAB Rezus.lt to obtain a psychiatrist's conclusion;
- Personal health history (ambulatory card) or a form No. 027/a issued by a family doctor**;
- A driver's honor declaration, OMA questionnaire, and EPWORTH sleepiness scale are filled out on the spot.
Other important information:
- Neurologist's conclusion on the ability to drive for patients with any form of epilepsy;
** For individuals who do not have a valid family doctor form No. 027/a (about health status) or are registered in a clinic outside Šiauliai city, or are not registered in Lithuania, mandatory health checks are performed on-site (tests, electrocardiogram).
How is the health check for obtaining a driver's health certificate carried out?
Various health checks are carried out in the clinic to obtain a medical certificate for drivers:
- Blood pressure assessment;
- Heart rate (pulse);
- Hearing;
- Vision;
- Vestibular apparatus function test may be conducted;
- Color sensitivity assessment may be additionally conducted;
- Electrocardiogram;
- Blood/urine tests;
- The doctor assesses the patient's health history, i.e., if they have any comorbid, chronic diseases, past surgeries, medications used, etc.;
- Psychologist or psychiatrist consultation is also important to assess the driver's mental health condition.
If specialists find that the individual's health condition is suitable for driving during the health check, the medical certificate is obtained immediately and included in esveikata.lt. After the clinic visit, the driver's health certificate is also visible on the 'Regitra' website.
When might a driver not be issued a driver's health certificate?
In some cases, a driver's health certificate may not be issued, for example, if the individual has health disorders that could affect safe driving.
A medical certificate for drivers may not be granted if the individual:
- Has poor vision;
- Suffers from epilepsy;
- Has severe heart or lung disease;
- Has high uncorrected blood pressure;
- Has significantly weakened hearing, etc.;
- Is completely deaf.
The health certificate may also not be issued if the individual has certain psychoses and personality disorders, when awareness is impaired, inappropriate behavior occurs, etc. A medical certificate for drivers may not be issued if, for example, they refuse to undergo necessary tests or do not disclose their health condition truthfully.
Check frequency:
- Up to 60 years - once every 5 years, the certificate is issued for no longer than until the individual turns 62;
- From 60 years - once every 2 years.
Certificates are issued ONLY electronically.
- The VSP can be issued to individuals not more than one year younger than the age specified in Article 23, Part 2 of the Safe Traffic on Roads Act, from which it is allowed to drive vehicles of the respective category. In cases where the minimum driver's age is determined not by this law but by other legal acts, the provisions of the respective legal acts apply.
