How to prepare for a driver's health check?
When arriving for a health check for a driving license, bring with you:
- ID card;
- Ophthalmologist's consultation conclusion;
- Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT) consultation extract/certificate;
- Driver's license (if health is being rechecked);
- Psychiatrist's (mental health center) certificate. Individuals who do not know which psychiatric institution they belong to should contact their family doctor or consult with the UAB Rezus.lt working psychiatrist privately to obtain a psychiatrist's extract;
- Personal health history (outpatient card) or a form No. 027/a** issued by a family doctor;
- The driver's honor declaration, OMA questionnaire, and EPWORTH sleepiness scale are filled out on the spot.
Other important information:
- The neurologist's conclusion regarding the possibility to drive for patients suffering from any form of epilepsy;
** For individuals who do not have a valid family doctor's form No. 027/a (about health status) or if the clinic where the patient is registered is not in Šiauliai, or those not registered in Lithuania, the mandatory health check is performed on site (tests, electrocardiogram are performed).
How does the health check proceed to obtain a driver's health certificate?
To obtain a medical certificate for drivers, various health checks are performed in the clinic:
- Blood pressure evaluation;
- Heart rate (pulse);
- Hearing;
- Vision;
- Vestibular function test may be performed;
- Color sensitivity assessment may be performed additionally;
- Electrocardiogram;
- Blood/urine tests;
- The doctor evaluates the patient's health history, i.e., whether he has concomitant, chronic diseases, previous surgeries, what medications he takes, etc.;
- A psychologist's or psychiatrist's consultation is important to assess the driver's mental health.
If specialists determine during the health examination that the person's health status is suitable for driving, the medical health certificate is obtained immediately and included in esveikata.lt. After the visit to the clinic, the driver's health certificate is also visible on the "Regitros" website.
When may a driver not be issued a driver's health certificate?
In some cases, a driver's health certificate may not be issued, for example, if the person has health disorders that could affect safe driving.
A medical certificate for drivers may not be granted if the person:
- Has poor vision;
- Suffers from epilepsy;
- Has a severe heart or lung disease;
- Has high uncorrected blood pressure;
- Has significantly weakened hearing, etc.;
- Is completely deaf.
A health certificate may also not be issued if the person has certain psychoses and personality disorders, when awareness is impaired, inappropriate behavior occurs, etc. A medical certificate for the driver may not be issued if he, for example, refuses to perform the necessary tests or does not tell the truth about his health status for certain reasons.
Frequency of checks:
- Up to 60 years - once every 5 years, the certificate is issued for no longer than until the person turns 62 years old;
- From 60 years - once every 2 years.
Certificates are issued ONLY electronically.
- VSP can be issued to persons no more than one year younger than the age specified in Article 23, Part 2 of the Law on Road Traffic Safety, from which it is allowed to drive a corresponding category vehicle. In cases where the minimum driver age is determined not by this law but by other legal acts, the provisions of the respective legal acts apply.
