Pinworm (enterobiasis) sample collection

To ensure the best quality of sample collection, pinworm samples should be taken between 5-7 AM. Later, the pinworms become inactive, and the likelihood of finding them decreases.

For the most accurate diagnosis – the adhesive tape method is the most reliable.

Collection by ADHESIVE TAPE METHOD. A transparent adhesive tape and a glass slide are required for sample collection.

1. After a night's sleep, do not defecate or wash, and collect between 5-7 AM.
2. Press the adhesive side of the transparent tape against the anus; you can press slightly with a finger along the folds.
3. Remove the tape and press the adhesive side onto the glass slide.
4. Write the patient's name, surname, and date on the glass slide.
5. Place the glass slide in a special box to prevent damage to the sample, and deliver it to the laboratory within 24 hours at room temperature (+15…+25) ⁰C.

NOTE It is recommended to repeat the procedure for 3 consecutive mornings to increase the chance of detecting hidden helminthiasis.
