New service in Šiauliai - sclerotherapy*

Varicose veins – subcutaneous superficial vein dilation – is not only an aesthetic issue but also a precursor of other, much more severe diseases. According to World Health Organization data, approximately one in four women and one in eight men suffer from venous diseases. The development of varicose veins is significantly influenced by excessive weight, tall stature, standing and heavy physical work (especially in the heat), sedentary lifestyle, constipation, and most importantly – genetics. A large portion of those affected inherit dilated veins from parents who suffered from varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, and other vascular diseases. One of the oldest methods for treating dilated veins is sclerotherapy. It is a non-surgical, effective, and painless treatment for dilated, prominent leg veins and capillary networks. Sclerotherapy takes from 30 to 60 minutes. No special preparation is needed. The same day you can return to your usual daily activities. Depending on the size of the varicose veins, several procedures may be required.

Advantages of sclerotherapy:

  • painless treatment method;
  • quick procedure and healing afterward;
  • no prior preparation for treatment is required.

Memo after the sclerotherapy procedure

 Tips for after the procedure:

  • immediately after the procedure, you must walk for about 30 minutes (sitting is not allowed);
  • after the procedure, you can engage in usual activities, as it does not reduce your productivity;
  • if there is pain, it is advised to use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers (Ketanov, Ibuprofen, Ibumetin, Paracetamol, etc.);
  • immediately after the sclerotherapy procedure, a therapeutic compression stocking is put on, which must be worn daily from morning to evening for 2-3 weeks, and sleep with the stocking on the first night after the procedure;
  • after the sclerosing procedure, it is not recommended to visit saunas, fly by plane, or lift weights for 3-4 weeks;
  • after the procedure, it is not recommended to sunbathe or visit solariums for 3 weeks or until pigmentation disappears, as this may provoke hyperpigmentation of the sclerosed skin area (brown spots).

Do not worry if:

  • after the procedure, pain, redness, or discomfort appears in the treated veins' projection. Usually, hardening appears along the course of the sclerosed vein, which lasts up to a month (if necessary, the doctor removes them);
  • a bruise forms around the injection site. It is advised to apply Lioton 1000 or HepaGel. The bruise usually disappears after 3-6 weeks;
  • you notice brown spots at the injection sites. Almost all patients experience immediate darkening of the vein upon injection of the sclerosing agent, which soon disappears. In rare cases, such vein darkening persists for 4-12 months.

When to immediately inform the doctor:

  • if fever develops;
  • if severe pain and swelling are felt in the legs and feet areas;
  • if a sudden cough or shortness of breath occurs.
