Microscopic Examination of Hair for Fungal Detection (Hair)

What is it? 

This is a microscopic examination that investigates the hair of the head or body to detect fungal infection. The examination allows assessment of whether the hair is damaged by the fungus and helps to determine the specific form of dermatophytosis. 

When is it recommended? 

• In cases of hair loss, especially in children; 

• When scaly, red, itchy spots on the scalp are observed; 

• Suspected scalp fungus (tinea capitis). 

Benefit: 

Helps to accurately determine the cause of the infection and prescribe effective treatment. Particularly important for children as this infection is contagious and often confused with other skin conditions.
