NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-B natriuretic peptide) – this is a marker of heart failure. It is a quantitative, sensitive, and specific marker of heart failure (HF). NT-proBNP is useful not only for diagnosing patients with HF symptoms but also provides information about the prognosis and hospitalization needs of patients diagnosed with HF. NT-proBNP testing is recommended for individuals older than 55 years, those with long-term (more than 5 years) high blood pressure, patients with diabetes, those who have experienced myocardial infarction and stroke, and those with coronary heart disease.
