Spiral removal is a quick and painless procedure during which a doctor removes the spiral that was inside the uterus. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, usually without causing significant discomfort.

It is recommended after the spiral's usage period has ended, when planning pregnancy, or when changing contraception methods. Spiral removal is safe and does not affect fertility.
