Prol | Prolactin

Prolactin (Prol) - is produced in the anterior pituitary and is secreted episodically. In women, prolactin is essential for the development of mammary glands. During pregnancy, the concentration of prolactin increases due to intensified production of estrogens and progesterone. The stimulating effect of prolactin on the mammary gland after childbirth leads to lactation. Hyperprolactinemia (in men and women) is a major cause of fertility disorders.
