Microscopic Examination of Skin for Fungal Detection (Palm Skin)

What is it? 

This is a microscopic examination used to search for signs of a fungal infection in the palm skin. Scrapes from areas of redness or flaking are examined. 

When is it recommended? 

• When there is itching, redness, or flaking; 
• Suspected skin mycosis or contact dermatitis; 
• When conventional treatments are ineffective. 

Benefits: 

Helps quickly identify or rule out a fungal infection and prescribe appropriate antifungal treatment. 

How is it performed? 

Skin scrapes are taken with a special tool from the affected area and examined under a microscope.
