Candida antigen detection (Mannan)

What is it? 

This test detects the antigen of Candida genus fungus – mannan – in the blood. It is one of the indicators that can help evaluate systemic or invasive candidiasis, especially when the fungus spreads beyond the intestines or skin. 

When is it recommended? 

• Suspected invasive candidiasis (especially in patients with weakened immune systems); 
• During or after long-term antibiotic treatment; 
• Patients in intensive care units; 
• Suffering from chronic, recurrent symptoms of fungal infections. 

Benefits: 

The test helps to timely detect fungal infections, which can be life-threatening, especially for hospitalized patients. Early diagnosis is important to start antifungal treatment as soon as possible. 

Important: 

It is recommended to combine the test with other laboratory and microbiological tests (cultures, other antigens). A negative result does not fully exclude infection.
