Androstendione

What is it? 

Androstendione – is a male sex hormone (androgen) produced in both men and women in the adrenal glands and gonads. It is an intermediate product in the synthesis of testosterone and estrogens. 

When is it recommended? 

• For women with excessive hair growth, irregular menstruation, acne; 
• Suspecting polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS); 
• Assessing adrenal or ovarian tumors. 

Benefits: 

The test helps to determine hormonal imbalances, identify excess androgens, and monitor treatment progress. 

Important: 

The test is often performed in the morning and on certain cycle days. Results are evaluated alongside other hormones (testosterone, DHEA-S, prolactin).
