Aldosterone

What is it? 

Aldosterone – a hormone of the adrenal glands that regulates the metabolism of salts (sodium and potassium) and blood pressure. It is important for fluid balance in the body. 

When is it recommended? 

• Suspecting primary or secondary hyperaldosteronism (e.g., with high blood pressure, hypokalemia); 
• With low blood pressure and salt imbalance; 
• Evaluating adrenal function or disturbances in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. 

Benefits: 

Helps to identify specific causes of hypertension, adjust treatment, and prevent complications. It can be used in conjunction with a renin test. 

Important: 

Special preparation may be required before the test (discontinuing certain medications, regulating salt intake). The test is sensitive to body position and time.
