Candida 7-causative agent panel by PCR method in urine (Candida: albicans, krusei, glabrata, dubliniensis, parapsilosis, tropicalis, lusitaniae)

Candida spp. – is a group of fungi naturally present in the human body's microflora, most commonly in the mouth, intestines, vagina, and skin. Typically, they do not cause problems, but under certain conditions (e.g., immunodeficiency, antibiotic use), they can cause infections (candidiasis). Typical symptoms of candidiasis in women include itching, vaginal pain, pain during intercourse, external dysuria, and abnormal vaginal discharge. Men may experience redness and itching on the head of the penis, white discharge under the foreskin, bad odor, and pain during intercourse. If untreated, the inflammation can recur, potentially leading to secondary bacterial infections, urinary tract infections, and reproductive system complications.

Candida PCR panel – is a molecular test designed to detect and identify species of Candida fungi. The test can be useful in cases of fungal infection symptoms, unclear or recurring symptoms, and when it's important to accurately assess the potential causative agent of the infection.

The differentiation of Candida species is clinically significant as different species can have varying sensitivity to antifungal medications. More accurate identification of the causative agent provides additional information for the physician to select the most appropriate treatment strategy, especially in cases of recurrent or difficult-to-treat infections.

Candida-induced mucosal infection can be associated with itching, burning, mucosal irritation, discomfort during intercourse or urination. Recurring symptoms can significantly affect well-being and quality of life.
