Why is the microbiota important?

As much as 80% of the immune system's condition depends specifically on the microbiota. When the microbiota is balanced, we are healthy, in a good mood, and have plenty of energy. However, when it's disturbed, we may face certain disease risks, including weight gain, diabetes, or even cancer risk. Science has already proven that the microbiota of healthy and sick individuals is very different. These changes in the gut microbiota are associated with diseases such as metabolic syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and obesity.

What are the most common symptoms of gut microbiota disorders?

Dysbiosis can be suspected when changes in bowel movements occur – diarrhea or constipation, bloating. There may also be skin rashes, acne, recurrent vaginal candidiasis in women, more frequent infections, and non-specific symptoms such as general fatigue and lack of energy. Our overall well-being indicates whether our microbiota is balanced or unbalanced.

Microbiota tests

Changes in the microbiota or microbiome can now be quickly assessed with tests that are already available in our Rezus Clinic. It is also recommended for healthy individuals to be tested – for example, those who want to change their diet or lifestyle, as animal or plant-based diets form different types of microbiota.

Genorama GutWell microbiome test MyBiome microbiota test
The “Genorama GutWell” microbiome test provides information about the composition of gut bacteria and recommends how to improve or maintain a balanced gut microbiome. With the help of a gut microbiome test, a conscious diet can be formed, and diseases and other health disorders can be prevented. This is a metagenomic sequencing-based test that allows for a comprehensive, objective, and practical study of the gut microbiome, providing detailed information about the microorganisms living in the gut and their functionality, health effects, and ways to balance the microbiome through personal dietary recommendations.

How to improve microbiota diversity?

The most beneficial Mediterranean diet nutrition model, because eating according to these principles provides not only a lot of plant fiber-rich food but also omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which help restore the firmicutes/bacteroidetes ratio.

A diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates promotes dysbiosis by increasing the number of pro-inflammatory bacteria and decreasing the number of short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria. Stress management, exercise, good sleep, food variety, and probiotics help balance our gut microbiota.
