Patient Reminder for Blood Test Preparation
- Do not eat for 8-14 hours.
- Do not drink sweetened and tonic drinks (coffee, tea).
- Do not smoke for at least 1-2 hours before the blood sampling procedure.
- Only water is allowed.
- Before blood sampling, it is necessary to calm down and sit quietly for 10-15 minutes.
- Before a lipidogram or other lipid metabolism tests, it is necessary to fast for 10-12 hours.
- When repeating hormone, trace element, and electrolyte tests, it is recommended to take blood at the same time of day.
- When repeating any blood tests, it is important to consider the patient's position (lying or sitting); the sample should be taken in the same position as before.
- It is not recommended to perform an iron test during menstruation. The test is best performed 2 weeks after menstruation.
- The concentration of female sex hormones in blood serum depends on the menstrual cycle, so they should be performed on the date set by the doctor.
- It is not recommended to perform a blood test after radiological, ultrasound, and/or other instrumental examinations, as well as after massages or water procedures.
- Before blood sampling for prostate-specific antigen and/or free prostate-specific antigen tests, it is recommended to avoid sports, physical exertion, and/or sexual intercourse for a few days.
- Before catecholamine tests (adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine), do not eat bananas, drink coffee, take B vitamins, or use sedatives and other central nervous system-acting drugs for 3 days.
- It is necessary to inform the staff taking the blood about any medications, vitamins, and supplements being consumed.
- If there are medical indications, blood for tests may be taken at any time.
