Celiac Disease Tests

We inform you that serological tests for the diagnosis of celiac disease are performed at the “Kraujolaboratorija.lt” laboratory:

  • for adults: antibodies against tissue transglutaminase Anti-tTG IgA and IgG;
  • for children: anti-gliadin IgA and IgG antibodies.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune, hereditary digestive tract disease where the body cannot tolerate certain proteins found in grains, collectively called gluten. Many people have celiac disease without knowing it. This poses a risk of serious complications.

Symptoms of celiac disease:

  • weight loss, excessive thinness;
  • diarrhea or constipation;
  • pulling, aching pains in the abdomen, bloating;
  • joint pain;
  • blister-like rashes on the skin and mucous membranes;
  • constant fatigue;
  • iron deficiency anemia.

Signs of celiac disease become apparent when consuming foods made from wheat, rye, and barley. Celiac disease can damage not only the small intestine but also other organs. Possible autoimmune damage includes the intestines, skin, liver, joints, uterus, heart, and other organs.

The diagnosis of celiac disease is definitively confirmed or ruled out by diagnostic tests for celiac disease:

  • serological blood tests (antibodies against tissue transglutaminase (Anti-tTG), anti-gliadin antibodies;
  • performing an intestinal biopsy.
