HBs Ag | Qualitative determination of Hepatitis B virus antigen

Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) – this test indicates the presence of a hepatitis B virus infection. HBsAg is the first immunological marker, usually appearing several days or weeks before clinical symptoms manifest. HBsAg is found in the blood of individuals with acute or chronic viral hepatitis B. HBsAg tests are used in diagnostic procedures to identify individuals infected with HBV and to prevent the transmission of the hepatitis B virus through blood and blood products. HBsAg tests are also used to monitor the disease course in individuals with acute or chronic HBV infections and, if necessary, to check the effectiveness of antiviral treatment. Additionally, it is recommended to perform HBsAg tests before childbirth to take appropriate measures to protect the newborn from hepatitis B infection transmission.
