Erythropoietin Concentration Determination

What is it?
Erythropoietin – is a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Its main production source – is the kidneys.

How is it performed?
The test is performed from venous blood. Often combined with hemoglobin, hematocrit, and ferritin tests.

When is it recommended?

• In cases of anemia of unclear origin;
• In chronic kidney failure;
• Suspecting polycythemia (too many red blood cells in the blood).

Benefits:
The test helps determine whether red blood cell production is sufficient and what influence the kidneys have on it. Used to monitor treatment (e.g., with erythropoietin preparations).
