Detection of Antibodies Against Acetylcholine Receptors

What is it? 

This test detects autoantibodies directed against acetylcholine receptors – crucial for transmitting nerve impulses to muscles. It is the primary test for diagnosing myasthenia. 

When is it recommended? 

• Suspected myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness, especially in the eyes, face, and swallowing muscles); 
• When muscle weakness worsens throughout the day and improves with rest; 
• Monitoring the effectiveness of treatment in autoimmune neuromuscular diseases. 

Benefits: 

The test confirms the diagnosis of myasthenia, helps differentiate it from other neurological disorders, and enables targeted treatment. 

Important: 

Not all cases of myasthenia have positive antibodies – clinical evaluation and additional neurological tests (e.g., electromyography) are essential.
