Varivax Vaccine (Chickenpox Varicella Zoster)

VARIVAX - Vaccination against chickenpox for individuals older than 12 months and adults. Two doses of VARIVAX are administered, and the vaccination dates are determined by the responsible doctor.

VARIVAX can also be used to vaccinate susceptible individuals who have been in contact with chickenpox patients. Vaccination within three days after contact may prevent the appearance of clinically visible infectious disease or alleviate its course. Moreover, there is limited data suggesting that vaccination within 5 days post-contact may alleviate the disease course. This vaccine is LIVE because the viruses present in the vaccine are alive but too weak to cause chickenpox in a healthy person.

This vaccine protects ONLY against the Varicella zoster virus, which causes chickenpox.

This vaccine should NOT be used if you are allergic to any of its components or to the antibiotic neomycin, or if you are currently suffering from an acute illness or have a flare-up of a chronic disease.
