Troponin T (TnT) test

What is it?
This is a specific marker of heart muscle damage. Troponin T is released into the blood when heart cells are damaged – most often due to myocardial infarction or other acute cardiac conditions.

How is it performed?
The test is performed from venous blood. Results are often interpreted serially (at several-hour intervals) when acute coronary syndrome is suspected.

When is it recommended?

• Suspected myocardial infarction (chest pain, shortness of breath);
• After heart surgeries or procedures;
• Assessing heart condition during chronic diseases (e.g., chronic kidney failure).

It is one of the most sensitive and specific tests for diagnosing heart muscle damage. It helps make quick decisions regarding the need for treatment and hospitalization.
