Total Procollagen Type Propeptide P1NP

What is it? 

P1NP is one of the biochemical markers indicating bone formation activity. It is an indicator of collagen synthesis, widely used in osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment monitoring. 

When is it recommended? 

• To assess bone metabolism disorders (e.g., osteoporosis); 
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment (especially with bisphosphonates); 
• After long-term corticosteroid use. 

Benefits: 

The test allows evaluating how actively bone tissue is being formed. Together with bone resorption markers, it provides a more complete picture of bone metabolism. 

Important: 

The significance of the test results is evaluated along with the clinical situation, bone density tests (DEXA), and other metabolic markers (e.g., vitamin D).
