Haptoglobin Concentration Determination

What is it?
Haptoglobin is a protein that binds free hemoglobin in the blood. Changes in its concentration allow for assessment of the intensity of red blood cell destruction (hemolysis).

How is it performed?
The test is performed using a venous blood sample.

When is it recommended?

• When hemolytic anemia is suspected;
• Together with bilirubin, LDH, and reticulocytes;
• After blood transfusions or transplantation.

Helps differentiate hemolytic origin anemias, evaluate their activity, and monitor treatment effectiveness.
